VE1PJS
Name is Peter and I live in Truro, Nova Scotia. I am 50 years of age and enjoy amateur
radio very much. Have been licensed for about 16 years. I first started with amateur radio with my dad (Harold Surette - VE1ALL)
who became a silent key in February of 2005. I spent alot of time around dad's shack growing up and listening and also watching
him work alot of CW with is vibroplex bug. As a father son project, I was able to help dad put a Heathkit HW-101 together
as a kit. After a few long months of building, we took the rig to (Tex Matheson VE1AAX) for a final tuning and off we went
to the air. It was some evening when the first contact was made. After moving to Truro I missed the radio and decided to write
my own license. Thanks to "B" VE1ALU and Harold Thompson VE1AA, I was able to write my basic then my morse code. After I went
for the advanced license and by George, I got them. I spent many evenings on the air with dad and as he got older, he looked
forward to us chatting together, After dad's passing, the family thought it would be only proper for me to accept dad's callsign
and I did with great honour.
I am a license embalmer and funeral director with Mattatall Funeral Home, Truro, where
I have worked for the past twenty years.
Ann my XYL (VA1ANN) is also an advanced operator and is a great CW operator.
I also own the Maritime Swap Shop which was placed in my hands by the late Max
Ross (VE1QM) and have looked after it for over ten years. I also have been a Maritime Net Controller for the past 11
years. I look forward in doing the net and really enjoy doing the Swap Shop. I have learned alot about different equipment
and also have seen alot of different things found with the Swap Shop's help. Things people sometimes thought were lost causes.
